He reigned for nearly 58 years in Scotland, but I'm afraid imhave no information about any celebrations.George III's was the first of the modern celebrations, and all that have followed have been similarly celebrated. I've experienced three, The Queen's Silver, Golden and now Diamond Jubilee, and we still have services of thanksgiving, hog and ox roasts, charitable giving etc. fascinating, isn't it?

re: the inspiration from Leviticus, why anyone would want to gather grapes in the nude in the first place is beyond me! ;-)

This was enjoyably informative, Julie. I had no idea that even that many monarchs made it to their 50th year of reign! I have probably read way too much Historical-Fiction (emPHAsis on the fiction) but I'm confused. James VI and James I are one and the same, correct? Did *they* combine his reigns to make the 50th jubilee in England or was it possible that it commemorated just in Scotland? Or do we not know anything at all?

It is fascinating to read of the life at Chawton. Obviously we are seeing it from Fanny's perspective, and I do wish she'd gone to Froyle with her Papa and her two aunts!

Well, Adam, as I understand it, though George III was in the care of Queen Charlotte, she stopped visiting him in 1812.....I always wonder if his treatment by the medical genii of the day didn't hasten his demise into madness. Deaf, blind and badly treated, what a terrible end.

George III was less than a year away from his Diamond Jubilee when he died in January 1820. However by that time his wife had died and he was suffering from dementia as well as many physical ailments, I doubt that there would have been such great celebrations as at Queen Victoria's or the current Queen's Diamond Jubilees.

That was wonderful! I should have expected that you would have some especially fascinating information for us in honor of Queen Elizabeth's Jubilee. I can't single anything out, it was all great. Thank you, Julie.
