I love that scene at Greys, a part of London that has vanished, really. And I’m not in the least surprised about your score: I would have expected nothing less! .

Well, I confess to getting them all correct [as I calmly pat myself on the back...] – I don’t usually do well in these trivia question events, so quite pleased [second pat on back...] – and the only reason I know Grey’s – the most obscure I agree – is that I have given a very detailed talk on London in the novels, and Grey’s is a standout because the scene is so wonderful, right out of Austen’s own letters of the shopping crowds – one can surely assume she met this very dandy [a.k.a. Robert Ferrars] in her London travels!

Re Mr Eltons status as vicar throws up some interesting points. IMHO it makes it more than likely that the living wasn’t in the posession of one person, i.e. a local landowner, the most probable candidate being Mr Knigthley, but was one that was bestowed by either a cathedral or by an academic body, such as a university college, or a school. I think JA took this route so that no blame could attach to one of her characters, particularly Mr Knightley or Mr Woodhouse, for inflicting this dreadful man on the locality.

Abd as for your answers, at least you’ve been honest enough to admit it, a quality of which I’m sure JA would have approved :)
