I know…an embarrassment of riches this week from good old Auntie Beeb.
Episode One of Jane Austen’s novel, Emma, my favourite of all her works, was broadcast today, and Episode Two will be broadcast tomorrow. They will both be available to listen again to, to you all, wherever you are in the world, so do check the programme’s main page, here, for all the details.
This is an interesting adaptation starring Eve Best,
Robert Bathurst and David Bamber, and it was first broadcast in 2001 IIRC.

“An embarassment of riches,” is right; this is hard to believe! Thanks, Julie.

I found Robert Bathurst’s reading of the “I cannot make speeches” speech both surprising and charming. Relatively rushed compared with the rest – how did you like this one, Julie?

It was ok. You can’t do justice to “Emma” in two hours, IMHO.

Right – Persuasion got three but Emma only two?? Next you’ll tell me Northanger Abbey’s getting five. All in all, it was nice however bite-sized the morsels, I wish Persuasion were also available as a download, and, like most too-brief adaptations, it did what I think they should all do, which is make me want to read the book. Thank you again for the heads up.
