Not that much, it appears from the evidence of her letters written when she was arranging for the publication of her books. Of course she died before she could publish Northanger Abbey and Persuasion and so she had no control over the first editions of them at all. sadly I won't be going to see it ( I'm at the ballet that evening!)But if you can get hold of a copy of Professor Sutherland's book Im sure you will be fascinated by her approach and what she has discovered about Jane Austen's original intent regarding many points in her novels.

This might be a silly question, but did JA have any power over the context and content, once an editor in her times got the manuscript? Or was it once she had submitted it once, that was it? This sounds so interesting and is a talk I would love to be at. I hope it is possible for your impressions on it, Julie. Keen ears here. Very good reading, thank you and to Kathryn Sutherland for writing it her style, too.

The book sounds quite wonderful; actually the lecture sounds quite wonderful, too. You've "expanded my consciousness" as we used to say in my youth. ;-) and I will definitely consider getting the book, even though I can't make it to the lecture. She sounds like a fascinating lady.
Thanks, Julie.
