I never cease to be amazed and drawn in to this particular subject of Georgian jewellery. Particularly interesting are the rings, as in your example, Julie, of word meanings in the gem placement order. I would love to read more on these topics. I can never forget the “fine eyes” comment of Mr Darcy regarding Elizabeth, and was thrilled to find out about the eye portraiture jewellery of the times. I can’t think of a society when there was a meaning set almost everything. Loved this, and the images accompanying.

Ah, lovely, lovely! As a “ring” freak — I won’t tell you how many I own, it is too embarassing, and come to think of it, I’ve lost count, I’m even more embarassed to admit — this was very enjoyable!

I thought the message jewelery was Victorian – thank you for clearing that up. Some of these rings could be purchased today – good taste never goes out of style!
